Meet Scott Siegel

Scott Siegel, LSW

Honest conversations. A more fulfilling life.

If you are looking for an approachable therapist who will listen, be honest with you, and help you figure out what comes next, I would be glad to talk. Before becoming a therapist, I spent about a decade working in finance. I could do the work, but over time I started questioning whether the path I was on actually fit me. I wanted work that felt more meaningful and more connected to people. My own experience with anxiety and OCD also shaped that decision. I know what it is like to look okay from the outside while feeling at war in your own mind. Learning to manage those experiences helped me find a different way of living, and it made me want to help other people find theirs.

Scott Siegel, LSW - Chicago Therapist at Modern Therapy Alliance

Scott Siegel, LSW is a Chicago therapist at Modern Therapy Alliance who works with adults navigating anxiety, obsessive and intrusive thoughts, career and work stress, life transitions, and financial stress. He also provides couples therapy and connects especially well with men and former athletes. His style is honest, approachable, conversational, and grounded in helping clients build a more fulfilling life.

How I Help Clients at Modern Therapy Alliance

I work with adults who feel stuck in their own heads, overwhelmed by expectations, or unsure why a life that looks fine on paper does not feel that way. Some are dealing with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, perfectionism, or self-doubt. Some are burned out at work or trying to decide whether their career still fits. Others are becoming parents, adjusting after competitive sports, working through financial stress, or trying to feel more connected in their relationships.

A lot of my work starts with understanding what matters to you. What would be different if your life felt more fulfilling? What do you want more of, and what keeps getting in the way? From there, we can look at the thoughts, habits, and pressures that are keeping you stuck. Sometimes that means changing what you are doing. Sometimes it means changing how you relate to what is already happening. I want to help you find a way forward that makes sense for your life.

How I Work

  • I show up as myself and keep therapy honest, approachable, and conversational.
  • I listen closely and adapt to what you need, whether that is space to talk, direct feedback, or help figuring out practical next steps.
  • I help you get clear about your values and what a meaningful, fulfilling life looks like for you.
  • I draw on ACT, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and exposure-based approaches to help you work differently with difficult thoughts and feelings.
  • I approach stuck patterns with curiosity and help you build systems that support follow-through rather than relying on willpower alone.
  • I balance compassion with accountability, so we can talk honestly about what needs to change without turning therapy into judgment.

Clients I Work With

I work with adults who want more peace, enjoyment, connection, or direction in their lives. You may be managing anxiety or obsessive thoughts, questioning your career, struggling with money worries, or adjusting to a new stage of life. You may be a former athlete trying to find a different relationship with achievement, or part of a couple wanting to understand each other more clearly.

I connect especially well with men and people who appreciate an honest, natural conversation. You do not need to have the right words or a clear plan before you start. It helps to be willing to look at what is happening, try something different, and work through some discomfort along the way. We can figure out the next steps together.

Specialties & Services

Anxiety & Overthinking

I work with adults dealing with anxiety, obsessive or intrusive thoughts, perfectionism, and the feeling that their mind will not give them a break. Together, we can understand the patterns and work on relating to thoughts differently, so they have less control over your choices and daily life.

Career & Work Stress

I help adults navigate career and work stress, burnout, imposter syndrome, work-life balance, and questions about whether their career still fits. My background in finance helps me understand the pressure of demanding work. Therapy can help you explore a change or find more intention and fulfillment in the path you want to keep.

Life Transitions

I work with adults navigating life transitions in work, relationships, identity, and family life, including becoming a parent. When your routines or priorities shift, it can be hard to know what comes next. We can make space for that uncertainty and work toward choices that reflect what matters to you now.

Former Athlete Support

My background in competitive gymnastics helps me connect with people whose lives were shaped by sports, structure, and high expectations. I work with former athletes exploring who they are beyond performance and competition, including the perfectionism and pressure that can stay with them after sports.

Couples Therapy

I work with couples who want to understand each other more clearly and talk honestly about what is getting in the way of connection. This can include differing priorities, family pressures, and the changes that come with building a life together. We can explore what each of you needs and what you want to work toward together.

Financial Stress

I help adults work through the worry, pressure, shame, and relationship strain that can come with money concerns. My finance background helps me understand the language and context, while our work focuses on the emotional impact, your values, and how financial stress is affecting your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

My approach is honest, conversational, and grounded in what matters to you. I want to understand what you are going through, what you want your life to look like, and what is getting in the way. I draw on acceptance and commitment therapy, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and exposure-based approaches depending on your needs. Sometimes we will work on challenging a thought. Sometimes we will work on giving it less power. The goal is to help you make changes that fit your values and your life.

I work with adults dealing with anxiety, obsessive or intrusive thoughts, perfectionism, career stress, life transitions, financial stress, and relationship challenges. I connect especially well with men, former athletes, and people who feel like they are doing what they are supposed to do but are not finding much fulfillment in it. You do not need to have everything figured out. It helps to be curious about yourself and willing to try something different, even when that feels a little uncomfortable.

I will listen and take what you are going through seriously, but I am also willing to give honest feedback. If something keeps getting in your way, I want us to be able to talk about it directly. That does not mean making you feel bad or telling you how to live. It means getting curious about why a pattern keeps happening and what would help you change it. If follow-through is difficult, we can work on practical systems rather than treating it as a willpower problem.

The first session will feel like a conversation. I want to hear what is bringing you in, understand a little about your background, and get a sense of what is important to you. We will talk about what you would like to be different and what a more fulfilling life would actually look like for you. You do not need a polished explanation of the problem. We can start with what you know and figure out the rest together.
