Pre-Licensed Therapists at Modern Therapy Alliance in Chicago

This role is designed for pre-licensed therapists who want to grow into confident, capable clinicians while learning how a real private practice operates. Many early-career roles focus either heavily on high-volume client work or limit exposure to the broader systems that support a practice. Private practice works differently.

At Modern Therapy Alliance, our goal is to help you build both your clinical skills and your understanding of how a sustainable practice functions. You’ll work with real clients while also gaining insight into intake, documentation, scheduling, and the day-to-day flow of a growing practice.

We believe this combination is essential for therapists who want to do meaningful work while building a long-term career in private practice.

How Caseload and Hours Work

We support you in building a consistent caseload by providing clients, while also encouraging you to take an active role in growing your schedule over time. This is a collaborative process that reflects how private practice naturally develops.

You can expect a caseload of approximately 25 to 35 hours per week once fully established, with some flexibility early on as your schedule builds. We offer competitive pay and aim to create a structure that supports both your financial stability and clinical growth.

Throughout this process, you’ll receive ongoing support to help you feel confident managing your caseload and developing your rhythm as a therapist.

What You’ll Learn and Develop

Our goal is not just to help you see clients, but to help you become a well-rounded clinician with a strong clinical voice.

During your time here, you will gain experience in:

✓ Building and maintaining a caseload in a private practice setting
✓ Developing your own therapeutic style while maintaining strong clinical judgment
✓ Working with adult clients navigating real-life stressors
✓ Clinical documentation and professional note-writing
✓ Understanding how client experience, communication, and retention work in practice

For therapists who want to eventually open their own practice or grow within a group setting, this experience provides a strong foundation that goes beyond traditional early-career roles.

What We Provide

✓ Consistent clinical supervision at no cost
✓ Clients provided, with support in growing your schedule
✓ Support for your licensing exam and professional development
✓ Access to theory-based training and mentorship
✓ Guidance on balancing authenticity with strong boundaries in the therapy room
✓ Exposure to how a modern private practice operates behind the scenes

What Makes This Experience Unique

Modern Therapy Alliance is a small, boutique practice rather than a large organization. That means you’re not just filling a role—you’re part of a team that is actively building something thoughtful and sustainable.

We value therapists who are engaged, curious, and willing to show up authentically with their clients. Rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all approach, we trust you to develop your own voice while maintaining a strong clinical foundation.

Whether your goal is to stay long-term or eventually build your own practice, we’re committed to supporting your growth in a way that aligns with your path.

Frequently Asked Questions about Pre-Licensed Therapists

This role is designed for pre-licensed therapists, including MSWs, LPCs, MFTs or those eligible for LCSW supervision, who are actively working toward full licensure.

Supervision is consistent and built into your experience, with a focus on clinical development, case consultation, and helping you grow your confidence as a therapist.

Caseloads build over time, especially before you are licensed. We help by giving you tools to grow your clientelle and support the process, but growth depends on availability, scheduling, and your engagement in maintaining your caseload.

It’s a balance of both. You’ll have the autonomy to work independently with your clients, while also being part of a team that values collaboration, support, and shared learning.

It can be either. Some clinicians choose to stay and grow within the practice after licensure, while others use this experience as a foundation for building their own practice—we support both paths.
