These Will Be Your Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based individual and/or couple’s therapy
  • Conduct intake assessments, develop treatment plans, and track client progress
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
  • Build and sustain strong therapeutic relationships with clients
  • Work with a diverse adult caseload (mood regulation, anxiety, relationships, transitions)
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in supervision and consultation

What We’re Looking For

  • Licensed in Illinois: LSW, LCSW, LPC, LCPC, LMFT, or PsyD
  • Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Psychology
  • LSWs and LPCs working toward clinical licensure are especially encouraged to apply—we provide direct supervision
  • Must reside in Illinois (NPI number and diploma verification required)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A passion for helping people and commitment to long-term client relationships
  • Comfort with an interactive, direct style of therapy that values connection over formality
  • Alignment with our core value of authenticity

What You’ll Get From Us

We want you to focus on what you do best: helping clients. Here’s what that means at MTA:

  • Minimal admin work: billing, marketing, and paneling are handled by us
  • Marketing support: help at the start to build your caseload, then we will keep it steady
  • Real tools: Simple Practice EMR, MS Office, HubSpot Intake, ADP payroll—we don’t cut corners
  • Supervision + consultation: We have a formal structured development path for pre-clinical staff with ongoing opportunities to process clients and a leader is committed to your success
  • Structured clinical learning path: intensive supervision, exposure to modalities like IFS, DBT, EFT, and practical guidance on when and how to use them
  • Caseload ramp-up: we’ll help you reach a full caseload within 60 days of diverse and challenging clients. You’ll ramp up as fast as you’d like, never faster.
  • Clinical development: CEU support, exam prep, and mentorship
  • Community: therapy can be isolating. We build a team dynamic where colleagues support and enjoy each other and mutual engagement is a part of the culture.
  • Practice growth: you’ll help shape a young practice with a real voice in how we evolve
  • Flexibility: hybrid model with about 2/3 telehealth and 1/3 in-person sessions
  • No quotas: you’ll never be asked to chase quotas; your focus stays on clients not numbers

How We’ll Compensate and Support You

  • Paid hourly, with the option to work additional client hours to increase your earnings; typical pay $50–$70/hour, depending on experience and licensure
  • W-2 hourly employment, including paid time off (PTO)
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits after maintaining a full-time caseload for 6 months
  • Administrative support for billing, intake, and scheduling
  • Insurance paneling with BCBS, United, Aetna, and Cigna
  • Help with insurance costs and CEU hours
  • 401k plan (coming soon)
  • Guidance and mentorship to prepare for your clinical exam when the time comes
  • Extensive supervision and mentorship from practice owner (Erik)
  • Caseload target of 27–30 scheduled client hours per week, aiming for ~25 billable
  • Flexible scheduling that includes evenings and weekends, since that’s when most clients seek therapy

Why You’ll Love Working Here

At Modern Therapy Alliance, you won’t feel lost in a sea of 50+ therapists. We’re building something more intimate, where everyone’s voice matters.

You’ll also learn more about real clinical work in your first six months than you did in your entire master’s program. We’ll show you how to apply modalities like IFS, DBT, and EFT, not just learn them. This is where the promise of your graduate training is fulfilled: not in textbooks, but through hands-on learning with a supervisor deeply invested in your growth.

Therapy is serious work, but our culture isn’t heavy—we laugh, we support each other, and we share the load. And frankly, as important as this work is, there is always room for levity and self-deprecation. Therapists are often the ones who need therapy most; we don’t take ourselves too seriously here. We believe it’s this kind of thinking that is why clinicians leave here feeling energized, not depleted.

Your Future With Us

We know some therapists will stay with us for years, while others may eventually want to start their own practice. If that’s your path, we’ll be your biggest cheerleaders. You’ll leave with confidence, experience, and the business know-how—from supervision to marketing and billing—to succeed on your own. And if you’d rather grow with us, there are opportunities to move into leadership roles, including clinical director positions.

Business Values

I (Erik) came from corporate America after 25 years, with master’s degrees in engineering and business and decades of experience advising others on how to build companies. But I never liked the way most businesses were run—too focused on numbers, not enough on people. When it came time to start my own, I built the business I wanted to work in: a place where therapists feel supported, valued, and energized by their work.

It’s not my plan to get rich off this business. I’m happy to share the books openly so the team knows exactly what it costs to run MTA. And when the time comes to make decisions about things like benefits or office comforts, whether we put more into retirement plans or into leather couches, we’ll make those choices together. For me, at the end of the day, it’s about people, not profit.

How to Join the Team

We keep this simple. I (Erik) came from corporate America, and I hate the usual hiring processes. We’re not asking for a cover letter, resume packet, or endless hoops to jump through.

Instead, click the link below and it will take you to our application form. You’ll answer three straightforward questions:

  • Why do you want to work at a small practice like MTA?
  • How do you think about authenticity in your work as a therapist?
  • Where do you see your career in the next few years?

From there, our office administrator, Josie, will reach out to schedule a quick call to verify details. After that, I’ll follow up personally to make sure we’re the right fit for each other.

This isn’t about bureaucracy—it’s about finding colleagues we’d actually want to hang out with between sessions. If that resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you.
