Therapy Jobs in Chicago

At Modern Therapy Alliance, we believe therapy works best when you can show up as yourself—direct, present, authentic. Being effective isn’t about hiding behind a rigid modality or a stack of worksheets. It’s about being engaged with your clients, drawing on your training and tools, and having the confidence to meet whatever walks through the door.

When I finish my sessions, I feel energized, not drained. That’s because I know I’ve given people real, meaningful help—and I want the therapists who join us to feel the same way. Our work should leave us inspired, not depleted. If you’ve ever felt like self-care was just about surviving a caseload, maybe it’s time to work somewhere that leaves you passionate, not used up.

This is why we exist. Modern therapy isn’t lying on a couch talking to a stranger, it’s a conversation with someone who is real, grounded, and passionate about the work. If you’ve ever felt out of place in environments that pressured you to sound more “clinical,” avoid disclosure, or box yourself into one framework, you may find a home here.

There’s also room for you to develop your own specialties—so long as you’re passionate and willing to put in the work to stay aligned with what we’re building. If you show up authentically and bring something unique that clients connect with, we’ll work with you to expand the practice in that direction.

Internships:

If you’re a grad student looking for an internship where you’ll actually learn how to be a therapist—not just how to follow a checklist—Modern Therapy might be a great fit. We offer a hybrid internship with direct weekly supervision from an experienced LCSW, along with several weeks of hands-on training before you ever meet with a client. You’ll get real-world experience working with professionals in a private practice setting (not a hospital or crisis center), and we’ll show you what it really takes to run a successful practice—ethically, authentically, and with heart. We partner with universities and accept students from MSW and other graduate programs eligible for LCSW supervision. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, explore theory in action, and be yourself in the therapy room (with good boundaries, of course), reach out to us. We’d love to talk about how we can work together.

Pre-Licensed MSW's

If you’re a pre-licensed therapist looking for a place to grow, get excellent supervision, and learn the ins and outs of private practice, we’d love to hear from you. At Modern Therapy, we work with professionals navigating real-life stress, and we’re looking for MSWs—or anyone eligible for LCSW supervision—who want to build something meaningful in this field.

We’ll help you build your caseload (clients are provided, though you’ll be expected to help grow your schedule), and we offer consistent clinical supervision at no cost to you. Expect 25–35 hours a week, competitive pay, with some flexibility early on as you build up your client load. You’ll also get support for your licensing exam, access to theory-based training, and guidance on how to be yourself in the therapy room while still practicing solid clinical judgment and strong boundaries.

We’re not interested in “how does that make you feel” therapists—we’re looking for people who care deeply, with a passion for theoretical understanding, and are ready to show up authentically for each and every session. We know some folks will want to stay on after they’re licensed, and we’d love to have you. But if your long-term goal is to open your own practice, we’re just as committed to helping you get there.

If that sounds like the kind of support you’re looking for, reach out anytime. We’re always open to connecting with the right person, and we’ll get back to you quickly.

Licensed LCSW's

If you’re a licensed clinical social worker looking for a therapy practice where you can be yourself, have real conversations with clients, and work alongside other grounded, thoughtful clinicians—you might feel right at home here.

Modern Therapy is growing, and we’re always open to connecting with LCSWs who value authenticity, curiosity, and doing good work without all the burnout. Our clients are mostly working professionals, and they’re looking for therapists who are direct, conversational, and truly engaged. We blend psychodynamic styles and trust you to bring your clinical voice into the room—we’re not here to micromanage your approach.

This is a W-2 position with a mix of in-person and virtual sessions. We take care of the admin side—billing, referrals, scheduling—so you can focus on your clients. We’re also in the process of setting up benefits (medical and 401K) by the end of the year. We expect a caseload of 25–35 hours a week, and for this to be your primary practice.

We’re building something thoughtful here—a team that supports one another but doesn’t force a false sense of “togetherness.” You’ll have space for independent work, but also a community that values depth, humor, and showing up as human beings, not therapy robots.

If this sounds like your kind of practice, don’t worry about filling out an application. Just reach out, and let’s grab a cup of coffee. We’d love to hear about your work, your goals, and how you see therapy making a difference.

This Isn’t the Right Fit for Everyone

We’re not for therapists who want to specialize in trauma, addiction, or crisis work. We don’t do intensive outpatient programs. If you’re looking for a large agency with lots of structure and protocols, this isn’t it. We’re also not a good fit if you’re primarily interested in social justice advocacy as the core of your clinical identity. That’s important work — it’s just not what we do here.
